In an interview with radio station WNJC 1360 AM, Democrat Congressman Steven Horsford of Nevada stated that he would not rule out a 2024 Presidential challenge to the current President Joe Biden if he felt the country needed different leadership.
Rep. Horsford went on to say, “I’m concerned about the direction that the nation is going, and I’m not ruling out anything in 2024. The most important thing I’m focused on right now is doing my job as a Congressman and fighting for the people of Nevada’s 4th District.”
Rep. Horsford’s comments come amidst speculation over whether or not a challenge to Biden by a progressive Democrat could come to fruition in 2024. His statements could give a signal to disgruntled Democrats and progressive groups looking to support a candidate that could place to the left of Biden and carry the progressive aspirations of the party.
Moreover, Rep. Horsford is among the current members of the House of Representatives that are being floated as potential Presidential hopefuls in 2024. This is likely because while being a Congressman, he has shown his commitment to progressive policies and his capability to communicate a message with the people.
Additionally, it is possible he is expressing his concerns as a way to show discontent for the policies coming from the Biden Administration. As the congressman has expressed his opposition to some of Biden’s policies such as the $6 trillion infrastructure bill, it could be his way of applying the necessary pressure in order to prevent some of the potential harmful policies passing from the Administration.
Rep. Horsford has not officially expressed his 2024 Presidential ambitions, these are currently speculation, however, he has not ruled out the possibility. Wherever his candidacy may end, Rep. Horsford is making it known that he is not afraid to take a stance and ensure the future of the Democratic Party is one that is built upon progressive ideals.
