As South Carolina Senator Tim Scott’s potential 2024 presidential campaign begins to sputter in its early stages, one of his closest allies has decided to pull back on its support.
The Valley Forge PAC, a Super PAC aligned with Scott, announced that it was “suspending its digital ad efforts” in support of the South Carolina Senator. The PACs announcement reads, “We’ve had the privilege of supporting Senator Tim Scott and his efforts to bring conservative policies and values into the mainstream political discussion. After much consideration, we have decided that suspending our digital ad efforts is in the best interest of the organization.”
The move comes at a difficult time for Senator Scott, who has spent the past several months attempting to position himself as a finalist for the GOP’s 2024 presidential nomination. However, Scott’s efforts have been met with mixed results, as polling numbers continue to show him trailing behind other prospective candidates such as former President Donald Trump.
The Valley Forge PAC’s decision also likely signals a lack of confidence for Scott on the part of the Super PAC, which was founded in 2018 by one of Scott’s closest political associates. The PAC had previously been contributing significant funds towards Scott’s various campaigns, including his Senate re-election in 2020 and a potential presidential run in 2024.
Ultimately, the decision by the Valley Forge PAC underscores what many political observers have come to realize in recent months: that Senator Scott’s prospects in the 2024 race remain rather slim. The South Carolina Senator has been attempting to arbitrate a middle ground between the traditional Republican Party establishment and the populist branch of the party, but he has yet to find a footing among either bloc. As a result, his campaign appears to be losing traction despite the support of traditional GOP allies.
