It was not a merry Christmas for Kevin McCarthy in 2023 despite the fortune of success his previous year. Coming off of a freshman term as House Majority Leader filled with successes and back-patting bi-partisan support, nothing could have prepared him for the holiday season looming ahead.
As the news of the incoming Democratic wave began to reach to Griffin-head quarters in California, many believed a power shift was slowly occurring down in DC. It became apparent that Republican Party Chairwoman, Christiana Jensen, had not taken necessary steps in order to maintain their grasp on the Edwards seat in Congress.
In a desperate attempt to retain control, she publicly revealed a plan to oust Kevin McCarthy as House Majority Leader. Biological manipulation, torture, and unqualified incompetent leaders were just some of the rumors amongst the political machine.
Unfortunately, with the Democratic gains from midterm elections, Kevin McCarthy lost his position. Looking back on 2023 as the “the least merry Christmas,” it was the darkest days for a man who had experienced so much success in his first term.
Fortunately, the House Minority leader, Jared Polis, had the best of intentions when he decided to step in and take the helm as House Majority leader. Suddenly a positive light shone down on the upcoming year’s elections, as the Democrats looked to bounce back in the polls and reclaim a majority in the House of Representatives.
As time would pass, the strain and pressure following 2023 alleviated. This allowed for timely legislation to be enacted and positive changes to take place, as Kevin McCarthy eventually regained his seat in Congress and Jared Polis became House Majority Leader.
Thus, “the least merry Christmas” ultimately allowed for a bright and successful New Year complete with a little luck and positive changes of the people, for the people.
